A utopian world where mindless humans operate like machinery is unexpectedly greeted by an armada of alien spacecraft. They begin to wipe out the entire population of the planet with callous precision stopping at nothing. After exterminating the vast majority of all living beings on the surface they begin to drill into the earth to extract it’s core, harvesting it’s energy
The planet however, is like no other, as the centre contains an intricate network of machinery and robotics. When attacked, it initialises its defences and constructs a massive insect robot army to ascend and annihilate. A battle ensues between the two behemoths leaving nothing but destruction in their path.
This video has been in the making for 2 years, It was created by two people, Ben Dauré And Tom Box. The first thing they had to do was to get the initial idea concrete, then create a text storyboard. Once completed, a real storyboard was drawn up by Box and created into an animatic by Ben to give a good idea of shot length and content.
Tom Box then drew everything in Photoshop and for every one of the 124 shots, separated each individual item into layers ready for animating. Ben Dauré then animated the scene in After Effects, some of the resulting projects ended up ridiculous, in particular the slow motion spider shot.
Nearly all of the explosions and fire were created from scratch in FumeFx. After the animating was complete Ben took the scenes into Premiere CC where they were edited together in line with the animatic and sound effects were added.
The next step was the credits, in the last video Ben and Box added themselves into the end, dressed like raiders from some lost forgotten desert world. It was a bit of an afterthought so the animation of the characters was limited. This time however they decided to go all out and have the characters destroy each other throughout the credits.
A note from the creators
We made this video purely and simply because it is incredible fun to create something so vast and initially daunting. Even if we had all of the money in the world we would still create things like this. Nothing beats the feeling of creating something on such a large scale, from scratch. We hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed making it. It took a lot of time and effort but it was worth every second.
