Two organists, one huge pipe organ, and Highland Cathedral in the magnificent Papal Basilica of St. Mary in Kevelaer, Germany!
In this video, we perform the famous Scottish melody Highland Cathedral on the great organ of the Marienbasilika Kevelaer. We started with a bagpipe-style registration to capture the beautiful Highland atmosphere — but then something unexpected happened: we accidentally switched into the full organ tutti, and suddenly the whole basilica was filled with the power of the pipe organ which surprised us both!
Playing this piece with Paul, who is one of the organists at the basilica made the moment even more fun. From a gentle, almost bagpipe-like sound to the massive full organ, this performance became a joyful and surprising organ moment in one of Germany’s most beautiful pilgrimage churches.
