Without getting into details, I’m going to just say 2019 was a fucked up year for me. By the time December rolled around I needed to spend the holidays by myself away from anyone I knew to try and put myself semi-back-together. I booked a ticket on a greyhound bus from San Francisco to Reno on Christmas Eve. I brought an old 4-track tape recorder and the first guitar I ever owned. The day I arrived I bought a used delay pedal and a bunch of cassettes at a pawnshop.

I spent 9 days boarded up in a $40 casino hotel room writing songs, playing 5 cent slots and watching the slice of America that spends their Christmas in Reno.

On Christmas Day I saw two Santa’s punch each other bloody over a slice of pizza. When I came back to reality it was a new year. I headed home with a some ugly souvenir t-shirts, a bunch of cassette tapes and what I’m starting to realize is a healthier perspective. It took me a minute but I finally got up the courage to release what I made in that smoke stained shithole. I’m calling this new project Mav Karlo. The first song I wrote in Reno is called Shakedown. This is the lyric video that I made with help from my buddy Ryan Faist. The rest of the “album” comes out next Monday, March 9, 2020
