How Daydream Plus created Extended Forecast: youtube.com/watch?v=OkH-5aP1Czw
All 12 album tracks from Second Last Day of Summer have been reconstructed using FamiTracker, a Windows-based program that allows the user to create authentic 8-bit chiptune that is compatible with the original hardware. Utilizing the 5 channels offered by the default 2A03 chip, each channel was assigned an instrument to bring a second version of the album to life onto a format fitting of the studio album’s inspirations.
The chiptune version of the album is called Extended Forecast, thematically designed as a companion piece to Second Last Day Of Summer. All the songs occur over the course of one day with temperatures and times of day featured on a heads-up display (HUD). All the temperatures are accurate to August 30th, 2025 in Toronto (the meteorological second last day of summer). After every three songs the sky changes colour to one of the four different backgrounds (morning/afternoon/sunset/night).
The idea for the chiptune album began with the idea just to do one song and include it with the studio album as a Bandcamp bonus track, and then that turned into doing four songs, and then that turned into the entire album.
